Sassy - Adopted by Dennis & Kim Johnson
Sassy came to us in the Fall of 2000. She had been bounced around to different homes all of her life, and at 12 1/2 yrs old her current owners were moving and no longer wanted her. A wonderful couple from Akron, OH intervened when they saw a "free dog" ad in the newspaper, and took her in before something terrible happened to her. They couldn't keep Sassy, but got her into rescue. We decided that she had been moved around enough in her lifetime, so she was here to stay. Her teeth were terrible, she had never been spayed, and she suffered from severe separation anxiety. Her medical needs have been taken care of, and she manages well being left alone with the other dogs in our household. Sassy has a very unusual gait, and looks like she is hurting when she walks. Our vet attributes this to poor joint and muscle development from having spent so many years in a crate. The vet feels that she is in no pain, and it sure doesn't slow her down any. After all that she has been through Sassy is a very healthy, loving, and energetic girl who recently celebrated her 13th birthday.

Skye - Adopted by Dennis & Kim Johnson

We first met Skye at the Maltese Nationals in New Orleans. She was a puppy mill rescue who came with a group of dogs from one rescue, enroute to another. It was love at first sight, and we adopted Skye shortly afterwards. Skye is a very tall girl, hence her original name "Skye High." Even with that height, she only weighs about 9lbs, and can fold herself in an average size looking Maltese. People are amazed when she stands up. She's a timid three year old, but feels very comfortable around other dogs. She despises arguments and keeps all of our girls in line. She's overcome a lot of her puppy mill fears, and is still working on the few that linger.
