Emmy - adopted by Jean Hwang

sassyfade2w.jpg

Emmy landed in rescue after her elderly owner died in the winter of 1999/2000. When we adopted her in June 2000, she was still grieving and
adjusting to all the changes in her life. At approx. 8 years old, Emmy was described as a "rather serious" little girl, but today she is a different dog: happy, playful, and energetic. Her only "fault" is being a huge snob when it comes to other dogs (we're working on that). She loves to go for walks and car rides, but her all-time favorite activity is going to the lake
where she can excitedly greet all the people there and chase after the ducks and geese.

Cisco - adopted by Jean Hwang

Cisco is a 6 lb., 11 year old former stud dog who spent the first 10 years of his life in a puppy mill in Texas. He has only one tooth, arthritis in his back legs, a cataract in his left eye, and a grade 3 heart murmur, but
despite his problems he is a tough little guy. He is very vocal when dinner is late, and is learning to enjoy going on walks. He loves being scratched behind the ears, and is gradually becoming more relaxed overall. Unfortunately, he was robbed of his ability to play, and prefers to spend most of his time sleeping (when he isn't eating).

Katy & Sugar - adopted by Frances & George

sassyfade2w.jpg

Katy and Sugar were both rescued in early August, 2000, from a puppy mill in Missouri. Katy was 7 months old and Sugar was 5 y/o. We adopted the two together, thinking it would make their adjustment to our home easier. And it did, for them. While having each other gave them companionship and security and they play a lot together, having the two of them also means when one starts barking at my husband, the other one barks too. That is still a real problem. They bark at him when he comes into the room, when they hear him upstairs, and they bark just because, and they will bark for 10-15 minutes at a time. The foster mother thought a man might have mistreated them since they have been so cautious of him. Katy has gradually gotten more comfortable with George, and Sugar is much slower. It has been, and still is, a slow process. After 8 months with us, Sugar is just now starting to let him pet her maybe once a day and neither will let him pick them up.
Both dogs took up me right off, let me pet them, pick them up, walk on a lead, and gradually began to tolerate being on my lap. They give me great, excited happy greetings when I've been gone for at least 5 minutes. It's so easy for me to make them happy, and that makes me happy. My experience is so totally different from George's, it's almost as if we have very different dogs.

Jezzabel - adopted by Lois Baldwin

sassyfade2w.jpg

Jezzabel is a 12-1/2 pound, gray, female Miniature Poodle who was about 9 years old when I adopted her on July 11, 1999. She was in a boarding kennel owned by a veterinary technician in New York State and advertised as free to a good home. I dont know anything about her former life, not even her age. Jezzabel is a slender, dainty, elegant, little lady with a wonderful personality. She is very sweet and loveable, likes everyone she meets, and loves to sit on anyones lap. Jezzabel is very adaptable to new situations, loves to ride in the car, and makes a great traveling companion. She likes long walks, meeting new friends, and shopping at pet stores. She looks very pretty when she is freshly groomed and wearing one of her costumes or sweaters. Unfortunately, Jezzabel is starting to slow down a bit as she ages. She has cataracts, and seems to have some problems seeing at night. Also she has periodontal disease, has had three teeth pulled, takes antibiotics for her teeth, and needs to have dental work done every year.

Daisy - adopted by Lois Baldwin

daisyw.jpg

Daisy was 9-1/2 years old when I adopted her from the Humane Society on March 4, 2001. Her hair had been chopped off to the point that her pink skin showed through, and she had a bad case of diarrhea from the vaccinations and worm medicine that she had been given. She was one sick little girl, but she was still barking loudly at everything she saw. Her previous owner had obtained her from a Maltese breeder and owned her for 9-1/2 years before giving her up because of "allergies to the dog". Daisy barked in her crate for the entire trip home. By the time we arrived home, she and her crate were filthy because of the diarrhea she had during the trip. The next day I took her to the vet for medication. Fortunately, Daisy was in good shape but it did take about 1-1/2 weeks to housebreak her again after her living in the shelter for a month. Daisy is very alert, active, and very vocal. She is the perpetual two-year-old child with a short attention span. She does not hesitate to challenge other dogs by barking in their face. Daisy is not a pretty dog, but a dog that is so funny looking that she is cute. She has no front teeth, and sometimes her lip is drawn back on the side so that her canine teeth stick out. No matter what I do to groom her, she always looks like she is having a bad hair day.

Chloe - adopted by Anne Hudson

chloesmilingw.jpg

Like most rescues, Chloe has had a sad and lonely life.  When she came to Anne, she was terrified of people.  Because of the loving kindness of Lisa Stanley, her foster mom in Ohio Maltese Rescue, she had improved, but she was a submissive urinator and fled in terror when approached.  But we don't want to dwell on what was.  Instead, we want to tell you what is so you can rejoice with us over Chloe's new life.

In Anne's household, Chloe quickly adjusted to her new family of Anne, Russ, Tutti and Ellie (her Maltese brother and sister) and GaddyByrd, a cocker mix and the undisputed matriarch.  She has even adjusted to the many visitors, both human and canine, that frequent the busy Hudson household.  A very bright little girl, Chloe is rapidly learning the routine of her new family.  Not least of all, she is learning how to manipulate her adoptive mom and dad to get the things she wants.

Some things were just meant to be. The chemistry between Anne and Chloe is obvious, and it was almost instantaneous.  Their mutual love is beautiful to behold.  Under Anne's care, Chloe has blossomed.  One might even say she is in full bloom.  Introducing Miss Chloe Bloomers!
